can you help with vintage altec lansing corp. speaker info? Question: I need info on a speaker labled ALTEC Lansing corporation in a walnut colored vaneered triangle shaped cabinet measuring approx.36" high,38"wide,26" deep, weighs a ton and has what appears to be a 14"-15" speaker behind a tweedy fabric grille. There appears to be only the one speaker in the cabinet leading me to think it is a bottom speaker. I think it might be a voice of the theatre, but i cannot find supporting pictures of similar speaker or ads. I have only one and would like to find another but have no idea where to look. I know my description is sketchy. Can anyone help a brother out? New details... I opened the back of the speaker cabinet and found: a very large aqua- blue- green speaker labled on the center(back of cone?): ALTEC lansing corporation 602A DUPLEX made in USA Along the bottom rim is ink stamped: 3(or S....its smeared)9531 and: B.F.LL R.V. Marked in white ink on the speaker paper is: WHF5200 Also inside the cabinet is a transformer(crossover?) that is marked: ALTEC Dividing Network N-3000A There are no other markings to be seen except for numbers at each screw on the transformer/crossover....for wiring info. Also ,the board on which the speaker and elec. box are attatched does have a slot cut under the speaker that looks like a space for a horn...horn under woofer? Does this help? Answer: Is there a model no. or some kind of ref.no. on the back. because i am having trouble tracking it down.If it is a voice of the theater it should be written somewhere. Can you remove the cloth grill and see if anything is written .It won't hurt the speaker if you are careful. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. HI CAB ,I FOUND ONE FOR SALE IT IS A 602A DUPLEX IN A CABINET FOR $595.00 IN MINT CONDITION.THERE IS NO PICTURE OF IT BUT I AM SURE IT IS THE ONE. DIVIDING NETWORK N-300A Here is the link: http://www.gis.net/~austudio/Used/used_speakers.htm ADDITIONAL INFORMATION : THERE WAS ONE AVAILABLE ON EBAY BUT THE LISTING HAS BEEN REMOVED (PROBABLY SOLD) I STILL CANT FIND A PHOTO OF IT ,WHICH IS STRANGE BUT I WILL KEEP LOOKING. |

Parts for my forced-air system? Question: I am having a big problem finding parts, and it comes down (mostly) to the fact that I don't know what the part is called! I have beautiful cast-iron floor grilles (registers, vents?) that I have restored. The decorative part of the register that sits above the floor attaches to a louvered device that sits down in the duct. I *think* these are called "boots", but I can't be sure. These louvered devices, being quite rusty and choked with 100 years of pet and human dander, are gross to say the least. Is it possible to find new "boots" to fit the various sizes of my vintage registers? Thanks! Answer: If you can remove the fixture below that has the louvers, you may be able to take it to a machine shop and have them sand-blast it. I did this with a pretty old floor register that had the louvers built on to the underside of the grille itself, and they functioned very well afterward. Mind that you paint the apparatus after having it sand blasted, because the bare metal will rust very quickly otherwise. |
